Steve Zungul reached the 1,000-point career total Friday night with one goal and two assists as the Tacoma Stars scored a 7-2 Major Indoor Soccer League victory over the Los Angeles Lazers.

Zungul, in his ninth season, has far outdistanced the next-closest MISL career scorer, Fred Grgurev, who had 544 points in nine seasons. Grgurev is no longer active.

Zungul scored his goal after Los Angeles pulled its goalkeeper with 6:36 left, in favor of a sixth attacker.

He kicked in a 12-foot shot from the left with 3:17 remaining in the game after rebounding Neil Megson’s missed shot from the right.

Zungul, who had his two assists within 66 seconds early in the fourth quarter, overshadowed Preki’s seventh career hat trick, and second this season. Preki added an assist for a four-point night.

The Lazers, who outshot Tacoma, 26-10, in the first half without scoring, finally got on the board with Chris Whyte’s unassisted goal 4:06 into the third quarter.

The Lazers will play the Chicago Sting at 7:30 tonight at the Forum.
