Mission Viejo : Saddleback District Studies Smoking Issue
Should cigarette smoking be restricted at Saddleback College and Irvine Valley College?
The Saddleback Community College District, which currently has no official policy on cigarette smoking, is now studying the issue, district officials said.
At the direction of Chancellor Richard Sneed, a 12-person committee has been named to study the effect of smoking in the campus buildings. The committee is composed of students and faculty from the two colleges.
Sneed has said he hopes a policy will evolve by late February, when reports and recommendations of the study group are to be presented.
The committee consists of five smokers and seven nonsmokers. The committee has the option of either recommending a districtwide policy for both colleges or recommending that each college formulate its own smoking guidelines.
