California State College, Bakersfield, has been elevated to university status. The smallest of the 19 campuses in the California State University system, Cal State Bakersfield was listed as a college until Monday when the California Post-secondary Education Commission changed it to a university. Officials of the new California State University, Bakersfield, credited the change to expanded academic programs and increased enrollments. A ceremony to commemorate university status is scheduled Feb. 4.
