Long Beach : Rent Inaction Criticized

A leader of the Mobilehome Assn. of Villa Park has criticized the Long Beach City Council for refusing to act on a mobile home rent control ordinance. Beth Wilburn said any action now probably would be too late since residents of the 432-space park on Atlantic Avenue, including many elderly people, are likely to sign new five-year leases despite steep rent and fee increases.

“It’s too late to help us now. You could have helped everybody,” she told council members in blasting their earlier rejection of an ordinance proposed by Councilman Warren Harwood.

She also accused Councilman Evan Anderson Braude of stalling the issue in committee.
