Local News in Brief : Santa Ana : Cable TV Show Seeking On-Air Talent and Crew

Share

An award-winning, locally produced cable television program sponsored by Rancho Santiago College is seeking new broadcast talent in 1988.

The program, “Around and About Orange County,” will hold tryouts for anchors, field reporters, sportscasters and technical crew members Jan. 21 at 11 a.m. at the studios of television station KYOU at 2900 W. Edinger Ave. The TV studios are on the grounds of Centennial Park.

Terry Bales, executive producer of the program, said candidates for on-the-air positions should be prepared to “cold read” a news script in front of a camera. All candidates, including those for technical crew jobs, should have the hours between 11 a.m and 2 p.m. free each Tuesday and Thursday, Bales said. No broadcasting experience is necessary.

“Around and About” covers the central Orange County area and has twice won the National Federation of Local Cable Programmers award as the best local-cable newscast in the United States. The college said several members of the show’s recent cast and crew now have full-time jobs in the broadcast industry.
