Share

Los Angeles prosecutors Monday filed the first case under the city’s 4-year-old underground tank ordinance, charging a businessman with illegally installing a 5,000-gallon gasoline storage tank beneath a residential neighborhood of Sun Valley.

Charged with 17 misdemeanor violations of the city municipal code was Ralph Conlon, 57, the owner of Eagle Concrete Co. City Atty. James Hahn said Conlon violated an ordinance, which went into effect in December, 1983, requiring anyone wishing to install an underground tank in Los Angeles to apply for a permit from the Fire Department, which then inspects each phase of the installation.

Conlon is scheduled to be arraigned Feb. 11.
