Local News in Brief : Toys Flowing for Tots
The Los Angeles County Toys for Tots campaign, which reported a severe shortage of donations last week, is now within 8,000 toys of reaching its Christmas goal.
Master Sgt. Ken Lewis said Monday that the Marine Corps, which runs Toys for Tots, has received more than 80,000 toys since the shortage was reported last week. The biggest donation came from The Disney Channel, which provided 60,000 toys, but several individuals have also made large donations, including one man who purchased $500 in toys from the Mattel Corp., Lewis said.
If donations continue at current levels, the Marines should be able to provide at least one toy to every needy child on its list, he said. Donations are being accepted at Marine Corps Reserve training centers.
