Local News in Brief : Coliseum Talks Continue

Share

Los Angeles Coliseum officials said Monday that talks are continuing with the two business partnerships bidding to become the private managers of the Coliseum complex, and that no preferred bidder will be designated for the time being. Coliseum General Manager Joel Ralph had said earlier that a preferred bidder would be named by now.

Officials said the commission’s special negotiator, stadium expert Lawrence G. Greenberg, will meet this week with representatives of both bidders--the partnership of MCA Inc.-Spectacor Management and the partnership of Weintraub International Enterprises-Madison Square Garden Corp.

Commissioner Richard Riordan said he hopes that that Greenberg will recommend a private management deal to the commission by Jan. 15 or 20. But at least one of the bidders, MCA Inc.-Spectacor, has voiced reservations about going ahead with detailed talks until a preferred bidder is designated. Irving Azoff, head of MCA Inc.’s Music Entertainment Group, has expressed unhappiness that his group, which offered the most money, has not been named in that role.
