Searchers in Santa Cruz halted a hunt for a 72-year-old Alzheimer’s disease victim who was mistakenly dropped off by a cab several blocks from his home and who was given little chance of surviving several nights of near-freezing temperatures and heavy rain, authorities said. Frank Bouzout was last seen Dec. 15 after a cab ride from an adult day-care center he often visited. Bouzout’s wife, Pat, said she had not given up hope but realized the chances were slim that the man could survive. But, she added hopefully, “He could be in a shelter.” The Santa Cruz County Sheriff’s Department said there was no reason to believe the taxi driver had acted negligently.
