Downey : Robbers Fake Water Test

Share

Downey police are warning residents to be on the watch for two robbers who reportedly posed as city Water Department employees to gain entry into a home on Old River School Road and steal $1,150 in cash and jewelry.

The robbers showed up at the home of a 67-year-old Downey woman Dec. 17 and told her that they needed to test water from her kitchen sink with chemicals that could damage jewelry, police said. They told the woman that she should remove her jewelry and leave it in another room.

The robbers then told the woman to watch the flowing water for signs of rust while they checked elsewhere in the house. She soon discovered that the men had left and that her jewelry and cash were missing, police said.
