Local News in Brief : Hit-Run Crash Kills Driver

A hit-run driver crashed into a car carrying a family of five, killing Ruperto Luna, 27, of Los Angeles and injuring his wife and two of the three children, police said.

Police later booked Manuel Tenorio Nino, 22, on suspicion of manslaughter. Police said he ran from the 1:30 a.m. accident near 41st Street and Avalon Boulevard in South-Central Los Angeles.

Luna died at County-USC Medical Center, his wife was in critical condition. A daughter, 2, was listed in critical but stable condition, a son, 7, suffered two broken legs and a broken collar bone; another son, 4, sustained only minor cuts.

The Luna family was headed east on 41st Street when their car was struck by a car headed south on Avalon Boulevard.
