A 66-year-old woman was burned to death when her clothing caught on fire as she lit a propane stove in the kitchen of her mobile home near Palmdale, authorities said Sunday.

The woman, whose name was not released, had gone into the kitchen of her mobile home at 9203 E. Avenue S in the Little Rock area at about 6:50 a.m. Saturday, Los Angeles County firefighter Bob Goldman said.

The flames apparently caught some of her loose clothing on fire and she fell back onto the floor, where she burned to death, Goldman said.

The fire also ignited some kitchen cabinets, he said.

The woman’s husband awoke to the smell of smoke but couldn’t find her, so he fled the trailer and called firefighters, Goldman said.

Firefighters extinguished the flames and found the woman’s body in the kitchen, he said.

Damage to the trailer was estimated at $500.
