A school bus carrying 25 children collided with a car near a busy downtown intersection Monday, resulting in minor injuries to two students and a teacher’s aide, the California Highway Patrol said.

The students, Nilton Earls and Destiny Linayao, both 11, were examined at Mercy Hospital after complaining of pain and released, a CHP spokesman said. The teacher’s aide, Marietta Blow, said she would see a personal physician.

The Laidlaw school bus was waiting at a red light on 1st Avenue near B Street about 8 a.m. when the driver’s foot apparently slipped off the brake, causing the bus to lunge forward into the car, CHP Officer Richard Clowpine said.

The CHP handles all school bus accidents when students are involved, a spokeswoman said.
