UC Enrollment Total of 157,331 Sets Record

A total of 157,331 students attended classes at the nine University of California campuses last fall, setting an enrollment record for the seventh straight year.

Officials said all campuses except UC Santa Barbara reported enrollment increases. UC Director of Admissions Ed Apodaca said the total represented an increase of 5,164 or 3.4% over the previous year.

UCLA, the largest campus, now has 35,435 students, an increase of 1,000 over 1986. UC Berkeley, the second largest, has 32,055, an increase of 500.
