Jack Rodri, former agent for Eric Dickerson, is seeking $3 million in damages in a counter-grievance filed Dec. 28 against the former Ram tailback through the National Football League Players Assn.

The action was filed in response to the $12.5-million lawsuit Dickerson filed against Rodri last May. Dickerson charged that Rodri was guilty of, among other things, breach of contract, negligent misrepresentation and fraud.

Rodri and former heavyweight champion Ken Norton negotiated a three-year contract extension for Dickerson with the Rams in 1985. Norton, however, was not named in the lawsuit. He has been recuperating from lingering injuries he suffered in an auto accident in 1986.

Rodri claims in the counter-grievance that Dickerson’s lawsuit is “totally unfounded and in bad faith,” and that the $3 million Rodri seeks in damages “represents lost profits and earnings and injury to business reputation caused by these false and heavily publicized charges.”

Dickerson’s attorney, Arn Tellem, said Rodri’s counter-action is “absolutely ludicrous and has no basis in fact.”
