Mayor Margaret (Peg) Nelson, one of two City Council members whose terms expire in April, has announced that she will not seek reelection.
"My husband reminded me that one of my campaign promises four years ago was that if I was elected, this would be my last term," said Nelson, who has been on the council since 1976. "He's holding me to my promise."
Nelson, 62, retired last year from a part-time job with the Norwalk-La Mirada Unified School District. Her husband is also retired, and she said that after three terms in office, it was time to turn her attention elsewhere. But the longtime Norwalk resident added that she may want to serve on a city commission after her elected term expires in April.
Councilman Robert E. White, whose term also ends this spring, is expected to run again.
