College Basketball : Davis Stings Canyons Men Twice as Bakersfield Wins in Overtime

Fran Davis, whose 10-foot jump shot from the baseline with two seconds to play sent the game into overtime, made another with two seconds left in the extra period to lift Bakersfield to a 96-94 victory over College of the Canyons.

Del Linzey scored 21 points, including four in the overtime period, for Canyons in the Western State Conference game at Canyons. Butch Mettinger and Darrin Moloznik each scored 18 points for Canyons (11-9, 1-1 in conference).

Everett Sutton led Bakersfield with 27 points. Davis added 10.

Southern Colorado 73, Master’s 51--Phil Hahn scored 16 points in a losing effort for Master’s in the nonconference game.

Kenny Smith added 12 points for Master’s (5-10).

Glendale 70, Moorpark 69--The Vaqueros (2-0 in Western State Conference play) held off a second-half rally by host Moorpark (10-6, 0-1).

Sophomore guard David Bussey led the Raiders with 16 and Tom Neumayr and Rich Murphy each added 13 points.

WOMEN

Portland 68, CSUN 50--Cal State Northridge (6-8) made only 28% of its field-goal attempts in its final nonconference game.

Vicki Mallett led Northridge with 20 points and Kristen Brinkema added 10.

Master’s 64, Redlands 27--Shelmarie Tatum scored a game-high 20 points and Deanna Mincks and Kim Vargas added 14 and 13 points, respectively, as Master’s (7-3) rolled in the nonconference game at Redlands.
