THE COLLEGES : College Roundup : Hunt’s 23 Points Lead Fullerton Women in Win

Stacy Hunt scored a career-high 23 points to lead the Cal State Fullerton women’s basketball team to a 73-59 Pacific Coast Athletic Assn. victory over UC Santa Barbara Saturday night in Titan Gym.

Hunt, who hit four three-point shots, scored 18 points in the first half. Jennifer Latta, an Esperanza High School graduate, tied her career high with 17 points.

The Titans led, 18-6, midway through the first half, but UCSB climbed back into the game, trailing, 32-28, with 1:30 remaining in the half.

Fullerton then scored 12 straight points in the last minute and a half, for a 44-28 halftime advantage.

Fullerton (7-5, 2-1) led the rest of the way; the Gauchos could only pull as close as nine.

Senior forward Amy Torczon scored 13 points for the Titans and freshman center Gena Miller had a career-high 14 rebounds.

Junior center Kira Anthofer scored 18 points to lead UCSB (7-5, 0-4) and Pat Niichel added 12 points.

In other women’s basketball:

San Diego State 91, UC Irvine 45--The Anteaters trailed by four points in the first half, but SDSU went on a 16-4 run to lead 34-22 at halftime in the PCAA game at San Diego State.

Freshman guard Kristi Ahlstedt was the only Anteater in double figures, scoring 10 points for Irvine (3-9, 1-3), including 8 in the second half.

The win was SDSU’s eighth in a row. Senior center Chana Perry scored 25 points for the Aztecs (10-2, 3-0) and Jessica Haynes added 21 points.

Weber State 84, Chapman 68--Weber State center Katie Weyenberg scored 27 points and added 12 rebounds to lead Weber State (3-8) in the nonconference victory in Provo, Utah.

Southern California College 60, The Masters 58--Guard Connie Brazell hit two free throws in the final minute and a half to seal the nonconference victory for SCC (9-3) at Newhall.

In men’s basketball:

Pacific Christian College 71, Loma Linda University 56--Pacific Christian College (15-2) recorded its eighth straight win with the nonconference victory at Loma Linda.

Southern California College 96, Christian Heritage College 89 (OT)--Junior guard Todd Dixon scored a career-high 30 points to lead SCC (4-8) in the game played at Grossmont College in San Diego.

In swimming:

UC Irvine’s Mauro Macchi was the only Anteater to finish in the top three in any event, on the first day of the UC Irvine Invitational Swim Meet at Heritage Park.

Macchi finished third in the Men’s 500 Freestyle, with a time of 4:45.67.
