Zack Jones scored 29 points and Gib Hinz added 17 points and 16 rebounds to lead Athletes In Action to an 88-73 exhibition basketball victory over Chapman Monday night in the Hutton Sports Center.

Jones, from San Diego State, hit 13 of 21 shots from the field to help AIA improve to 19-8.

The loss does not affect Chapman’s 9-4 record.

“This is about the only time as a coach that you don’t mind losing,” said Kevin Wilson, Chapman coach. “It’s not very often we get to play against 7-foot centers (Hinz) and Division I 6-foot 5-inch guards (Jones).”

AIA, shooting 53% from the field, was ahead, 52-39, at halftime and opened a 20-point advantage on Hinz’ two free throws with 12:32 remaining. The closest the Panthers got after that was 10 points, when Kelly Huston scored inside with 5:24 left to make it 72-62.

AIA made 15 of 16 from the free-throw line and Hinz hit 7 of 7 free throws. Chapman was 4 of 7 from the line.

Huston led the Panthers with 21 points and 6 rebounds. Andy Stensgard was 8 for 10 from the field for 16 points for Chapman, which shot 43% from the field (32 of 74).
