Local News in Brief : Buena Park : Police Say Strangulation Caused Woman’s Death

Share

The 18-year-old woman found slain in the bedroom of her father’s home in an affluent Buena Park neighborhood Monday had been strangled, authorities said Tuesday.

Buena Park police said they had no prime suspects in the death of Gehmine Chandler, whose body was discovered by her father about 5:30 a.m. Monday.

An autopsy showed that Chandler died by strangulation, apparently by hand, Buena Park Police Detective David Skaugstad said. Officials were awaiting test results to determine whether she had also been sexually assaulted.

Meanwhile, police were compiling physical evidence found at the house in the 8700 block of Vestavia Avenue, Skaugstad said. He would not elaborate on what the physical evidence was.

“The investigation is moving right along. We are gathering a lot of background stuff. We got a lot of fingerprints, but we don’t know who they belong to yet,” Skaugstad said.

There were no signs of forced entry.
