Winter Sports Highlights : Late Goal by Brinket Spurs Alemany to 2-0 Soccer Win

Brian Brinket’s goal with 10 minutes remaining broke a scoreless tie and lifted Alemany High to a 2-0 victory over Notre Dame in a Del Rey League soccer match at Notre Dame on Tuesday.

Brinket, who scored on an assist from Keith Costanzo, assisted teammate Barry Sanchez with two minutes to play for the Indians’ final margin of victory.

Goalie Eli Hallack had 12 saves for Alemany (14-3-2, 2-0-1). Notre Dame is 1-3 in league play.

Hart 2, San Gabriel 1--Hart’s Scott Etheridge and Jerry Miller scored goals in the Indians’ Foothill League match at San Gabriel. Hart is 3-1 in league play.

Moorpark 2, Santa Ynez 1--Junior Jesus Chavez scored goals for Moorpark in the Tri-Valley League match at Moorpark. Chris Brailo assisted on the first goal and Chavez scored the second goal unassisted. Moorpark is 8-4-1, 3-0 in league play.

Canyon 2, Quartz Hill 1--Anders Nordland’s goal with two minutes remaining snapped a 1-1 deadlock in the Golden League match at Canyon. Senior Henrik Lansenfelp scored Canyon’s first goal. Canyon is 2-6-2, 1-0-1. Quartz Hill is 1-1 in league play.

L.A. Baptist 2, Marshall Fundamental 1--Mike Comstock and Todd Cohen each scored in the first half to lead the Knights in an Alpha League game at L. A. Baptist.

Keith Johnson assisted on both goals. Goalie Mike Eden recorded the shutout.

L. A. Baptist improved to 3-7-3 overall, 1-0-1 in league play. Marshall Fundamental is 0-2 in league play.

WRESTLING

Chaminade 53, Leffingwell Christian 11--Chaminade’s Justin Stark ran his unbeaten streak to 12 matches in the 177-pound weight division as Chaminade (2-3) recorded a dual meet win at Leffingwell Christian in Downey. Chaminade wrestlers won in 11 of 13 weight categories. Three of the victories were by forfeit.

Chaminade’s other winners were Joe Norton (247 pounds), Felix Goodson (156), Sandy Hayes (147), Chris Hayes (134), Justin Kowalchuk (114), Frank Conley (107) and Derek Lee (100).
