Local News in Brief : Countywide : Motorcyclist Killed in Head-On Collision

A 61-year-old El Monte man died instantly early Friday when his motorcycle collided head-on with a pickup truck, California Highway Patrol Officer Ken Daily said.
Daily said Kenneth Vern Blackburn was southbound on Santiago Canyon Road near Modjeska Canyon about 6:25 a.m. when a northbound pickup truck trying to pass a larger truck swung into his lane. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
The pickup driver, according to witnesses, tried to pass a tractor-trailer rig, saw the motorcycle coming and swerved into the side of the larger vehicle, but the impact forced him back into the oncoming lane.
