Funeral Rites Held for Widow of Former Fluor Corp. President

Funeral services were conducted Thursday in Newport Beach for Margaret Mary Fluor, widow of the former president of Fluor Corp.

A resident of Orange County for 68 years, Margaret Fluor died of natural causes Sunday at her home on Lido Isle in Newport Beach. She was 88.

Margaret Fluor was the widow of Peter Fluor, whose father John Simon Fluor founded the Irvine-based Fluor Corp., which provides worldwide engineering, construction and management services to clients in the oil and gas industries. Peter Fluor died in 1947.

Their only son, J. Robert Fluor, served as chairman and chief executive officer for the company for 16 years. He died of cancer in 1984 at the age of 62. J. Robert Fluor II is vice president of corporate relations at the company.

Margaret Fluor was a member of the Anaheim Assistance League, a charter member of the St. Jude Hospital Guild in Fullerton and the Holy Family Madrecitas Adoption Guild.

Services were held at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic Church in Newport Beach. Burial was at Holy Sepulcher Cemetery in the city of Orange.

She is survived by two daughters, Marnie Reed of Newport Beach and Elizabeth Louise Taylor of Seattle; 14 grandchildren, and 24 great-grandchildren.
