Prize Specimens Featured in Annual Rat and Mice Show

Share

The true test of a devoted parent is not whether you’ll spring for a drum set or bankroll a video-arcade addiction with endless quarters. It’s whether you’ll take the kids to the Annual Rat and Mice Show today at the Hacienda Heights Youth Science Center.

More than 100 exhibitors will enter their prize specimens in this American Fancy Rat and Mice Assn. show. The owners are mostly adults who breed generation after generation to achieve the perfect coloration. It will be a competition of Clairol-hued rodents: categories include champagne, fawn, dove, coffee, cream, chocolate and silver. The judges will be looking for the best longhair satin, frizzy, hairless, rex and other varieties.

Animals for Sale

The show is free and runs from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. in the auditorium of the Wedgeworth Elementary School, 16949 Wedgeworth Drive, just west of the Puente Hills Mall. Some exhibitors will have rats and mice for sale. At noon, science teacher Mary MacDonald will give an everything-you-always-wanted-to-know talk on rats and mice.
