Local News in Brief : Sheriff’s Unit Disarms Simi Valley Pipe Bomb

Share

The Ventura County Sheriff’s Department bomb squad disarmed a pipe bomb Saturday morning on a residential street in Simi Valley, police said.

There were no injuries, and authorities did not know why the bomb was placed at the curb in front of a house in the 1400 block of Blackstock Avenue, Simi Valley Police Lt. Bob Klamser said.

A resident of the house, 21-year-old Craig Vincent, found the seven-inch pipe bomb about 10 a.m. and reported it to police, Klamser said.

Klamser described the bomb as “not an insignificant device.” It contained explosive powder and, although its fuse had been lit, the device inexplicably did not explode, the lieutenant said.

Authorities still were trying to determine the device’s strength, Klamser said. But he added that, had it detonated, damage probably would have been limited to a car parked nearby or anyone who might have been walking past.
