Van Driver Killed in Bonsall Crash

A man was killed early Saturday in Bonsall after he lost control of the van he was driving and it overturned and crushed him, a spokesman for the California Highway Patrol said.

The victim was still unidentified as of Saturday night, a San Diego County deputy coroner said.

The 1976 Chevy van was traveling east about 2:15 a.m. on Old Castle Road when the driver lost control and went off the road, crashing into a dirt embankment just east of Red Mountain Drive, the CHP said. The man was thrown from the vehicle, and it rolled over him, the spokesman said.

“The fact that he was thrown out of the vehicle makes it obvious that he was not wearing his seatbelt,” the spokesman said.
