“Snoopy the Musical” will make the jump from stage to TV in an hourlong animated special Jan. 29 on CBS. Charlie Brown and other Peanuts characters are involved along with Snoopy in the program that was written and created by Charles M. Schulz.

Another children’s favorite, Big Bird, will have a new friend in the Jan. 27 episode of “Sesame Street.” Comedian Jay Leno will sit in for Big Bird’s friend Johnny and will be given the challenging task of helping Bird decide which of four shapes is different from the other three. It’s Leno’s first visit to “Sesame Street.” Many other celebrities have been on the show over the years.

Glenn Close, who’s a Tony winner, and Keith Carradine, an Oscar winner, are the stars of “Stones for Ibarra,” which “Hallmark Hall of Fame” will present Jan. 29 on CBS. They play a married couple who give up their comfortable life in San Francisco to return to family roots in the rural Mexican village of Ibarra, only to learn that he has leukemia.

Dr. Arnold Pike, producer-host of “Campus Profile: Viewpoint on Nutrition” seen on KABC-TV, has received a commendation from Mayor Bradley and County Supervisor Ed Edelman for his 36 years as an educational TV broadcaster and the taping of his 6,000th TV program. He’s been producing and hosting educational TV programming in Los Angeles since 1951.

The Beach Boys will be honored with an Award of Merit during the 15th annual “American Music Awards” Jan. 25 on ABC. The trophy recognizes the group’s “outstanding contributions” over more than a quarter of a century.
