The State : Kaiser Nurses to Vote on Pact
About 6,200 Kaiser Permanente nurses will vote on whether to ratify a tentative contract agreement that could push full-time salaries over $40,000 a year, it was reported. The agreement averted a strike that would have affected two million patients served by 25 Kaiser hospitals and clinics in Northern California. According to Maureen Anderson, spokeswoman for the California Nurses Assn. in San Francisco, nurses would receive a 5% wage increase retroactive to Jan. 1, another 5% in January, 1989, and 6% in January, 1990. Other benefits include premium pay for nurses working more than two consecutive weekends and improved educational programs.
