Local News in Brief : Santa Ana : Council to Consider Pooling Liability Costs

The City Council is due to decide today whether the city, which is now self-insured, will pursue a proposal to pool resources with 12 other cities.

The city’s last liability insurance policy lapsed in 1986, and no insurance company has yet offered to replace it.

Estimates put the cost at $590,000 per year. Coverage would be for a total of $25 million, less a $1-million deductible.

Among other cities said to be interested in creating a joint powers authority are Garden Grove, Fullerton, Huntington Beach, Los Angeles, Sacramento and San Bernardino.
