Local News in Brief : Squad Defuses Bombs Found in Apartment
Workers cleaning a vacant apartment in Encino discovered crude homemade explosives that were defused by the bomb squad Thursday afternoon, Los Angeles police said.
Detective Ron Douglass said the workers found the bombs about 3 p.m. inside an apartment that had been vacant for some time in Encino Oaks, a complex of more than 500 units in the 5400 block of White Oak Avenue.
The workers took the bombs to the manager’s office and called police. Part of the complex was evacuated until the bomb squad defused the devices a few hours later, Douglass said.
Douglass refused to say how many “improvised explosive devices” were found in the apartment.
