UCI’s Weichsel Wins, Then Loses in Tennis

Courtney Weichsel of UC Irvine scored an upset but was later eliminated in the Intercollegiate Invitational women’s tennis tournament at the Riviera Tennis Club at Pacific Palisades Thursday.

Weichsel upset Lesley Hakala of Brigham Young, 5-7, 6-3, 6-2. Hakala was the No. 9-seeded player in the tournament and the 16th-seeded women’s player in the country. Weichsel, who is unranked, then was defeated by Ginny Purdy of USC, 6-3, 6-1.
