Toro Cagers Start Turning-Point Trip

Share

Only one game deep into its California Collegiate Athletic Assn. men’s basketball schedule, Cal State Dominguez Hills faces what could be the turning point of its season this weekend when the Toros hit the road for two games.

The first stop here tonight at 8:05 is against the Mustangs of Cal Poly. Although only 6-8 overall, San Luis Obispo has been a stingy host. It leads the CCAA in defense, allowing fewer than 60 points a game.

Dominguez Hills has a three-game losing streak. A pair of losses would cripple the hopes of Coach Dave Yanai for a finish among the top four teams in the CCAA, which is needed for a postseason conference tournament berth.

Dominguez Hills (6-7) and Cal Poly lost conference openers last week. Dominguez Hills was beaten by Chapman, 78-64, the first loss to Chapman in the past eight games for the defending conference champions.

Saturday night Dominguez Hills will be at Cal State Bakersfield against the hot Roadrunners. Bakersfield (9-5) has won five straight, including a 52-40 victory over San Luis Obispo last week.
