Loyola Women Lose to Gonzaga, 56-55

The Loyola Marymount women’s basketball team lost in overtime to Gonzaga on Saturday in Gersten Pavilion, 56-55, as Gonzaga caught the Lions in the final minute of regulation.

The Lions took a 47-45 lead on Tricia Gibson’s free throws with 57 seconds left, but Gonzaga guard Robin Allen hit a basket with 27 seconds remaining to force the overtime. Allen then scored her team’s last three points in the extra period, which Gonzaga led all the way.

Gonzaga improved to 11-6 overall and 4-0 in the West Coast Athletic Conference. Loyola fell to 11-9 and 1-3. The teams have a rematch next weekend in Spokane.

Regan O’Hara led Loyola with 16 points including 8-for-8 from the foul line. Kristen Bruich added 10 points.

Tammy Tibbles led Gonzaga with 16 points. Kerri McIntosh added 14 and Allen had 12. Gonzaga out-rebounded the Lions, 41-29.
