Two men arrested on suspicion of drunk driving were hospitalized in serious condition after they collided head-on on a south county road this weekend, officials said.
Sixto V. Pastrana, 25, of Santa Ana was thrown from his car by the collision, just before the engine and front end were ripped away and the car burst into flames, said Ken Daily, a California Highway Patrol spokesman.
Thomas Allen Haggett, 37, of San Clemente suffered major chest injuries when Pastrana crossed over a double yellow line and struck Haggett’s car, Daily said.
Both were taken to Mission Hospital Regional Medical Center in Mission Viejo, where they were listed Monday in serious condition, a hospital spokeswoman said.
The accident occurred at 7:30 p.m. Saturday when Pastrana crossed over the center divider and struck Haggett’s westbound car, Daily said.
