The Washington Bullets overcame a tremendous performance by Charles Barkley Monday night at Landover, Md., and beat the Philadelphia 76ers, 118-117, in overtime.

It was the third time in less than a week that the Bullets prevailed over the 76ers. The Bullets trail the 76ers by only 1 1/2 games in the battle for second in the Atlantic Division.

Barkley scored 14 of the 76ers’ last 16 points in regulation. His last basket gave Philadelphia a 105-103 lead with 25 seconds left, but Bernard King tied it with a 10-foot jumper. Barkley finished with 37 points and 15 rebounds.

Utah led by one at halftime, then outscored the Cavaliers, 29-7, in 9 1/2 minutes.

Milwaukee 108, Golden State 105--Paul Pressey scored on a driving layup with 26 seconds left at Oakland to put the Bucks in front, then made a key rebound a few seconds later.

The Warriors, again without injured Ralph Sampson, built a 19-point lead in the second quarter.
