A 76-year-old San Diego man who worked on older-model cars was crushed to death in his garage Tuesday when a jack underneath his Mercedes-Benz slipped, police said.

Wayne Andersen, of the 800 block of Johnson Avenue, died in the garage about 3:15 p.m., Deputy Coroner Joseph Cogen said.

Police said the jack holding up Andersen’s 1967 car slipped at 2:45 p.m., pinning him underneath.
