A passenger on a motorcycle was killed and his brother, the driver, was critically injured when they failed to stop at a red light and hit a car making a left turn, authorities said Wednesday.
The passenger, Hector Garcia Castro, 21, of Santa Ana, died of severe head injuries at Fountain Valley Regional Hospital and Medical Center at 9:25 p.m. Tuesday, a spokesman for the coroner's office said.
His brother, Eduardo Garcia Castro, 23, also of Santa Ana, was being treated for massive head injuries at the Fountain Valley hospital, where he was listed in critical condition Wednesday, a hospital official said.
Costa Mesa Police Lt. Leslie Harrison said the injured motorcycle rider is under investigation for felony drunk driving.
Witnesses told police investigators that the driver of the car was westbound on Baker Street when he stopped to make a left turn at Milbro Street. Eduardo Garcia Castro drove his motorcycle into the front of car as it completed the turn, Harrison said.
Neither of the motorcyclists was wearing a helmet, Harrison said, adding that the driver of the car was not cited.
