Local News in Brief : Orange : Woman Battles Thief, Keeps Purse; Man Held
A 40-year-old woman fought off a would-be purse snatcher Wednesday afternoon, and police later found a suspect behind a nearby supermarket and arrested him, authorities said.
Nancy Martin, who lives in Orange, was standing outside the California City Bank in the 3400 block of East Chapman Avenue when a man accosted her and tried to take her purse, Police Sgt. Timm Browne said.
Martin struggled with the man and managed to take the purse back from him, Browne said. The man then jumped on his bicycle and pedaled furiously away.
Minutes later, police found Enrique Rosana Hernandez, 24, of Orange hiding behind an Albertson’s market and arrested him on suspicion of attempted robbery, Browne said.
