WCAC Roundup : Lane Takes Command to Lead Santa Clara to a 69-65 Victory

Guard Chris Lane led Santa Clara to a 69-65 victory over the University of San Francisco in a West Coast Athletic Conference basketball game Wednesday night at Santa Clara.

The win gave the Broncos a 4-1 league record and dropped USF to 2-3.

Keith Jackson and Mark McCathrion paced the Dons with 20 and 18 points, respectively.

USF (11-7) took a 32-31 lead at halftime after the lead changed 10 times during the first half. Then, the score went back and forth until there was 11:44 remaining in the second half, and Lane hit an 18-foot jump shot to give Santa Clara (13-5) the lead for good, 45-44.

Santa Clara’s biggest lead came when Lane hit both foul shots with 9:19 remaining, making it 53-46.

St. Mary’s 41, U. San Diego 40--Al Lewis hit a three-point shot with 25 seconds left to give the Gaels the victory at San Diego.

Lewis finished with 19 points as the Gaels (11-5, 3-2) shot 42%. The Toreros (8-10, 0-5), led by Danny Means with a game-high 22 points, shot 35%.
