Local News in Brief : Shopping Mall Proposed
A six-level, two-block-long enclosed shopping mall has been proposed for Encino, to be built primarily underground.
Because only two levels of the $100-million mall would be above ground, the proposal will apparently meet strict building controls for the area and not require a single public hearing, Los Angeles officials said Thursday. The Puma Development Co. of West Hollywood, which is developing the project north of Ventura Boulevard, said a three-level, 2,000-car parking lot--also will be underground.
The as-yet-unnamed 375,000-square-foot shopping center, scheduled for opening by mid-1990, would be similar in design but smaller than the Sherman Oaks Galleria about a mile to the east.
