Raiders Reportedly Fire Five Assistant Coaches
The Raiders, who are searching for a replacement for retired Coach Tom Flores, have fired five of Flores’ assistants, a source said Thursday.
Reportedly released were quarterback coach Larry Kennan, offensive line coach Sam Boghosian, tight end coach Bob Mischak, special teams coach Ray Willsey and conditioning coach Jim Bush.
Raider management refused to confirm or deny the report.
Raider executive assistant Al LoCasale did say, however: “I think Al (Davis) indicated at the retirement press conference that the assistant coaches are in a difficult position in a situation like this.
“Counting the strength and conditioning people, we have 15 people on our staff. In a situation like this, moves and changes are to be expected.”
Another Raider assistant, linebacker coach Sam Gruniesen, is known to have applied for the head coaching job.
