Gonzaga Runs Over Lady Lions, 66-52

Gonzaga University went on a 15-0 scoring run midway through the second half Thursday night to break open a close game and send Loyola Marymount to a 66-52 defeat in a West Coast Athletic Conference women’s basketball game.

Loyola Coach Todd Corman was ejected for arguing with the referee with 10:45 left to play, in the middle of Gonzaga’s decisive spurt. Gonzaga built a 48-33 lead after the game had been tied, 33-33, with 14:02 left.

Loyola led at half-time, 27-25, on 11 of 20 shooting from the floor, but the Lady Lions were only 9 of 39 in the second half. Forward Amy Atkinson had 12 points and freshman guard Kristen Bruich added 11 for Loyola, which dropped to 11-10 overall and 1-4 in the WCAC.

Guard Tammy Tibbles led Gonzaga (12-6, 5-0) with a game-high 18 points. She was 10 of 10 from the free-throw line.
