The body of a woman was found by hikers Thursday in a campground on the La Jolla Indian Reservation near California 76, a Sheriff’s Department spokesman said.

The body was found by hikers near the bank of San Luis Rey River, said Sgt. Manny Castillo said. He said the woman “appeared to have been dead for a considerable period of time” and that her age could not be determined.

Castillo said he had contacted the coroner’s officer and that preliminary tests showed no obvious signs of trauma.
