Larry Maxey, a running back from Morse High School, made an oral commitment to San Diego State, heading a list of five San Diego County players who decided on colleges Monday.

Maxey (5-feet 11-inches, 170 pounds) will join a team rich with running backs, including Paul Hewitt, Tommy Booker and Lincoln’s Darrin Wagner, who committed last week. Hewitt will be a senior and Booker will be a sophomore.

“I’m not too concerned about the other guys,” Maxey said. “I’m just as good as anyone else. I’m looking forward to the competition. I think it will be fun.”
