Three inmates awaiting trial for murder suffered stab wounds during two separate fights at the county Hall of Justice jail in downtown Los Angeles, sheriff’s deputies said.

The first attack occurred about 3:45 p.m. Monday when Anthony Sampson, 19, was stabbed just above the eye during a fight with several other inmates on the 12th floor of the county building, Deputy Bryan Williams said. But by the time deputies discovered him, neither Sampson nor other inmates in the area would identify the assailants.

A short time later on the 11th floor, jail deputies found inmates Oscar Rivera, 23, and Jose Carrillo, 18, suffering from stab wounds. They had apparently been involved in a separate fight, but both men refused to reveal any information about the attack, Williams said. The two were taken to County-USC Medical Center, where Rivera was treated for several serious stab wounds and Carrillo for several minor stab wounds, Williams said.
