County Youth Panel to Honor 20 Students

Two San Fernando Valley high school students are among 20 young people to be honored today for outstanding contributions to their community by the Los Angeles County Commission on Youth.

Esther Niell of North Hollywood High School will be presented the Service Award and recognized as Volunteer Youth of the Year for work with the Red Cross and the Los Angeles Police Department.

Ana-Lupe Morado, a John F. Kennedy High School student from Sylmar, will be honored for her work with mentally retarded and disabled children.

The 20 youths, recognized as role models in academics and community service, were chosen from among 150 students recommended by school officials.

The students submitted resumes, references and essays on the greatest problem facing young people today and its solution.
