Local News in Brief : Nurse Talks to Resume

Share

Nurses union officials and county labor leaders said they expect negotiations to resume today in an effort to reach agreement on a wage package for the 4,000 Los Angeles County nurses who went on strike last week.

A meeting was also to have been held Wednesday night between county officials and the Joint Council of Residents and Interns, which represents resident physicians who recently picketed County-USC Medical Center in protest of the county’s efforts to contract out for doctors’ services.

The nurses went on strike last Tuesday but were ordered back to work three days later by a Superior Court judge. Since then, negotiations have failed to break the logjam over a proposed wage package for nurses. The county has offered the nurses a 14.5% wage hike over two years, and the nurses are demanding a 19.5% pay raise over two years.
