L.A. Police Patrols and Fatal Gang Shooting in Westwood

Share

It’s amazing! On the same day that you report that LAPD “will more than triple the number of officers assigned to Westwood Village” on weekend nights, you also list crimes as reported by precincts for 1986 and 1987 (Metro, Feb. 2).

Homicides in the West Los Angeles Division dropped from 14 in 1986 to 10 in 1987. Homicides in the 77th Street Division rose from 116 in 1986 to 160 in 1987. Maybe a few of the 20 officers assigned to Westwood could be reassigned to 77th Street or Hollenbeck where homicides rose from 33 in 1986 to 41 in 1987. Or aren’t those communities influential enough?
