Statue of Sen. Stephen White

Share

I read with interest the article about the statue of White. He was truly a great man--district attorney of Los Angeles, lieutenant governor of the state and U.S. senator. My father, Isidore B. Dockweiler, was his personal friend and he vouched for my father’s good character upon completion of his study of law when he was admitted to practice law in California in 1889.

My father was honorary pallbearer at Sen. White’s funeral and contributed to the casting and erection of the statue. There is so much that has been said on behalf of the ability, honor and integrity of this great lawyer that has already been written in a book about his life.

I hope that Sen. White’s statue will be returned to its proper place in front of the County Courthouse for all of us to view.
