Heaven Will Have to Wait for Another St. John

Where was the hyped up “shoot-out?” John Elway came up with pop gun, Doug Williams brought all the artillery, and the Redskins resembled George Patton’s tanks en route to Bastogne.

The media has really been unkind to Elway. He has been too early canonized. The lad is very mortal and most fallible under pressure. Let the drums roll and the trumpets blare after he has led his team to a couple of Super Bowl triumphs and been selected MVP twice, a la Joe Montana.

Please spare us any more Bronco appearances in what turns out to be lamb’s garb. Two consecutive wimpish exhibitions should be more than par for the course. Kosar and the Browns were far better equipped for the task.
